Another U-Turn: Earlier they said ‘no talks till terror stops’. Now they are asking Pak ‘are you comfortable’

“There can be no talks till Pakistan takes action against terrorists like Lakhvi.” These were the words of our Foreign Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj in May 2015. Later, in August, many foreign policy hawks of the BJP applauded her as she was not willing to let Pakistan NSA Sartaj Aziz broach any topic apart from terror in his talks with Indian NSA Ajit Doval.

And in December, she went to Pakistan, and said India is “ready to work at the pace Pakistan is comfortable with.” What are the reasons for this U-turn of the Modi government? Ceasefire violations have been on the rise, with more than 950 having occurred in the last 18 months, and close to 100 security personnel martyred. Attackers have infiltrated Punjab and Kashmir. Areas in Poonch have been subjected to heavy artillery fire.

Smt. Swaraj needs to tell the Parliament and the people of India what has changed in these last few months. The attacks originating from Pakistan have continued unabated. Smt. Swaraj and Shri Narendra Modi need to tell the nation if Pakistan has brought to justice the perpetrators of the 26/11 attacks. What have been the discussions with Pakistan on 26/11 and Kashmir?

The government has been continuously doing flip-flop on our Pak-policy, leading to the impression that Modi-government’s foreign policy is directionless.
