INC Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s Visit to Bastar, Chhattisgarh
INC Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s two day visit to Bastar in Chhattisgarh commencing on July 28, 2017 as part of the Jan Adhikar Sabha is a call to the Modi Sarkar to address 13 years of misgovernance by the BJP in Chhattisgarh.
Mr. Gandhi’s visit comes at a critical juncture where the BJP must abandon its anti-poor economic policy and its heavy handed approach to law and order in Bastar in favour of the INC’s time-tested model of rights-based development and inclusive governance if it is to fortify Bastar’s confidence in the Government of India.
Mr. Gandhi has been invited to meet with representatives from Bastar’s elected nagar and panchayat, Chamber of Commerce, Bastar Pariwahan Sangh, community leaders, NGOs and the NSUI Tribal Students’ Convention to brainstorm responses to Bastar’s most pressing development and security issues.
Mr. Gandhi will also be meeting with families affected by naxal violence and police atrocities. His support will amplify their demand for justice and the cessation of rampant human rights violations. In this year alone, there have been four insurgencies, the most notable being at Sukma where 25 CRPF personnel were killed. BJP’s indiscriminate counter-insurgency efforts and failure to pull up the special forces for attrocities against civilians and war crimes like rape have given new vigour to naxal violence in Bastar.
Mr. Gandhi will also hear the grievances of families displaced by unfair land acquisition drives and those who are adversely impacted by poorly thought out government projects.
