Shri B.K. Hariprasad
Shri BK Hariprasad was born in Bangalore on 29 July 1954.
He joined the Indian
National Congress in 1972, and held various positions in the National
Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Indian Youth Congress (IYC) in
Karnataka before becoming the General Secretary of the NSUI in 1979 and
subsequently Vice President of the IYC in 1989.
Shri Hariprasad was
elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1990 and 2004. He was appointed Joint
Secretary of AICC in 1997-98 and became Secretary, AICC in 2001.
Shri Hariprasad distinguished himself in
Parliament through participation on various parliamentary committees,
viz the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Chemicals and
Fertilisers, Health and Family Welfare from 1990 to 1996 and the
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban and Rural Development and
Labour and Welfare from 1991 to 1996. He was a member of the
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Development and Parliamentary
Consultative Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment from 2004 to
2010. He sat in the Public Accounts Committee from 2009 to 2010.
He was also a member of the house
Committee on Coconut Development Board and on the National Advisory
Committee of NCC. Shri Hariprasad was a member of the CPP Executive
Committee from 1994 to 1996.
Shri Hariprasad has represented India in various international fora, including the UN General Assembly in 2009.
In 2006, he was elevated to General Secretary AICC, a post he has held since.
He is married to Smt. Usha Hariprasad and has a daughter.
