Anti-National Denationalization

Spokespersons: Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Shri Shaktisinh Gohil and Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain:Shri Mallikarjun Kharge said that unions of 9 banks have been on strike all over the country for two days. The strike includes at least 13 lakh employees. After this, the General Insurance Companies and LIC employees are going on strike against privatization. So, at a time when so many people are going on strike, the government is not even thinking about them. It is not even coming forward to negotiate with them.

I would say that most of the loss will be incurred by the poor people and at the time of Corona, if lakhs of such people become unemployed, they would have nowhere to go. The 12 nationalized banks, which have at least one lakh branches, employ 13 lakh people. Out of 75 crore account holders, neither a single account holder, nor their representatives were asked if they were to be denationalized. So, the people are troubled by this one-sided policy of the government. Apart from this, I want to raise another issue, which is huge. You all know that when there was an economic crisis in the world, India was unaffected by it. This was possible because our nationalized banks were working efficiently and Smt. Indira Gandhi had nationalized banks with a good intention; so that even the poorest of the poor could go to banks and acquire loans, which earlier used to be the exclusive domain of the rich. But Indira Gandhi ji nationalized 14 banks at the same time. Top 14 banks were nationalized and at that time everybody welcomed it. You already know this. Its purpose was to enable the poor people to benefit from banks, to get loans to keep their work sailing. So that, even small businesses, MSMEs too, could get loans. But what is happening today is that all these banks are being merged one-by-one and are being run into losses. This is being done to carve a way for private partners to enter it, so that, by privatizing the nationalized banks, the wealth of this country is handed over to an exclusively selected lot. This government is working only for a few people.

Our intention and our governments have always worked in the public interest. We helped the poor by bringing the Food Security Act, the Compulsory Education Act, and schemes like MGNREGA and nationalized banks too. We even helped the people by bringing land reform law. Despite doing so much, today he is handing over our good works to a few capitalists.Even SCs, STs and OBCs are being duped.

We demand that the government should answer openly, accept the demands of the workers of the nationalized banks and leave behind the idea to merge banks or denationalize them. So, we will take this issue further in the future. Tuesday, 16 March, 2021
