“Beti Bachao” slogan had proved hollow

Spokesperson: Smt. Alka Lamba: The Mahila Congress National President Smt. Alka Lamba pointed out that between 2014 and 2024, a total of 42,85,888 cases of crimes against women were registered across the country during the Modi government’s tenure. The Mahila Congress alleged that the Narendra Modi government has failed to ensure women’s safety in the country, citing National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data showing a sharp rise in crimes against women during the last decade.

Expressing concern over the situation in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi, she said that the BJP’s “Beti Bachao” slogan had proved hollow. Smt. Alka Lamba alleged that the BJP was using “Nari Vandan” merely as a political slogan while protecting influential leaders from punishment and diverting attention from controversies like Epstein Files.

Referring to NCRB figures, she said that Uttar Pradesh topped the list with more than 66,000 cases of crimes against women, followed by Maharashtra with nearly 48,000 and Rajasthan with over 36,000 cases. She added that Madhya Pradesh and Bihar recorded around 33,000 and 27,000 cases, respectively.

Mahila Congress President also noted that crimes against Dalit and tribal women were rising sharply and said that even the national capital remained unsafe for women. She remarked that whether it was the case of Ankita Bhandari or the Champawat minor, justice could not be expected under the BJP government in Uttarakhand, and therefore an impartial investigation should be conducted outside the state.
