Spokesperson: Shri Ajay Maken: The AICC Treasurer Shri Ajay Maken said that the BJP had got just around 6 percent votes in Punjab in 2022 Assembly elections. He said, now after the defection of seven AAP RS MPs, the BJP’s representation in the RS from Punjab had risen to 86 percent as six of the seven RS MPs from the state now belong to the BJP. He also hit out strongly at the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party for playing a “fixed match” between themselves. He said, while the BJP had stolen 86 percent of the Rajya Sabha seats from Punjab with just 6.6 percent votes from the state, the AAP’s mask of being a common man’s party had fallen off and it had been completely exposed.
The AICC Treasurer noted that there were ominous signs of widespread drug addiction and a rise in gangster culture in the state. He cautioned that history shows that these two things are precursors to extremism and terrorism, recalling the tragic memories of the 1980s. He said that the situation was quite serious in Punjab as it was under the grip of both the drug abuse and gangster culture. Shri Ajay Maken also took on the AAP, saying the mask had finally fallen off its face, as it is now clear that it is not a party of the common people, but the billionaires. He disclosed that the average net worth of the seven AAP RS members who recently joined the BJP is more than Rs. 818 crores, which proves it’s a party of moneybags and billionaires.
Reiterating that the AAP is a proxy popped up by the BJP, Maken pointed out how Arvind Kejriwal maligned Dr Manmohan Singh and Smt. Sheila Dixit, two best and honest administrators of 21st-century India. He said that since the BJP was unable to do anything against them directly, it used Kejriwal for maligning and defaming them.
The Congress treasurer also disclosed out how the AAP only fights in the states where the Congress is in a direct fight with the BJP, thereby cutting into the Congress votes to help the BJP. He said that this happened in Gujarat where the AAP fielded candidates mostly in the constituencies where the Congress was in a position to win.
Similarly, Shri Ajay Maken added, immediately after Kerjiwal got bail ahead of the Haryana elections, he announced that the AAP will field candidates in all 90 constituencies. He said that the AAP got a very small vote share, which was almost equal to the difference between the vote share of the Congress and the BJP. Monday, April 27, 2026
