Spokesperson: Prof. A. Bimol Akoijam: He condemned the killing of three Christian leaders in an ambush by unidentified armed men in Kangpokpi district in Manipur a day earlier. He said that five persons were injured in the ambush and added that another person was later killed in a firing incident.
The Congress MP maintained that it was the continuation of the uninhibited violence that has been taking place in Manipur since May 3, 2023. He alleged that the BJP, through its politics of social polarisation, was trying to divide people in the state.
Prof Akoijam said that instead of restoration of normalcy in the state, the sphere of violence has expanded. He pointed out, barely a week ago, a massive attack on the Indian villages belonging to the Tangkhul community located along the Myanmar border was launched by armed foreign elements.
While calling upon the government of India to immediately take firm action and crack down on the armed groups to end the violence, he also demanded the release of the report of the inquiry commission set up for probing the violence in Manipur. He further urged the Central government to ensure the protection of the lives and property of the people of Manipur. Thursday, May 14, 2026
