Spokespersons: Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Shri Gurdeep Singh Sappal: Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi said I have had a privilege of leading the Congress delegation involving about seventeen complaints to the Election Commission. The seventeen complaints as summarised in a chart, all of you are getting a copy, by email from our media department. The seventeen complaints I have enlarged upon and discussed in detail, only five or six before the Chunav Aayog. I will just summarise some of the them.
The most important is the first one, which deals with the extremely objectionable comments of no less than the Hon’ble Chief Executive of this government. The higher the post he holds, the more the obligation on him to exercise restraint. Unfortunately, the statement we have quoted, is seriously, ridiculously, objectionable. He had named a community. He has talked of religion blatantly; he has talked of communal and community blatantly. He has brought in a Hindu imaginary of no less than the ‘Mangal sutra’. He has therefore clearly violated Section 123, the basic principle of not allowing excitement and inflammation of communal passions.
The second complaint, we have raised is an extraordinary one as I said- in James Bond parlance, the first-time it happens is stance the second time is coincidence, the third time is enemy action. In Surat, the Congress candidate, who was nominated by four proposals, suddenly all four stand up and denied their signatures. All four together, this is no coincidence. The candidate is missing for many hours and by the time he resurfaces we find, that every other candidate has withdrawn his candidature, every one of them. His candidature is rejected by the returning officer. The third example we have raised before the Commission is about the imaginary on the social media handles of the official social media handles of the BJP; all official. All the social media imagery, the posters of the BJP officially put only have Hindu religious imagery. We are all proud Hindus, somebody maybe a proud Sikh, somebody maybe a proud Christian, but we keep our religion within our homes. This again needs to be dealt with the stern hand.
Lastly, we have raised the issue of Amish Devgan, a news18 anchor, who carries on an inflammatory, an incendiary a seriously provocative mutual hatred generating programme on his channel. We have given the details of the programme and we have said that such kind of blatant, cheap, crude, religious imagery and words must be stopped forth with. Monday, April 22, 2024
