Spokesperson: Shri Pawan Khera: He said that the Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was hiding more than he was revealing about the deal.
Media & Publicity Chairperson Shri Pawan Khera alleged that the proposed Indo-US trade arrangement amounts to a “surrender” of national economic interests, claiming key decisions are being taken to suit Washington rather than India. He warned of serious consequences for farmers, the middle class and small businesses.
Shri Pawan Khera said that under the reported terms, India will massively increase imports from the US – from roughly $ 40-42 billion a year to a staggering $ 500 billion over the next five years. He said this would wreck the country’s economy. Alleging that Indian markets could become a dumping ground for American goods, Khera said over 40 percent of India’s exports to the US were already duty-free even before this deal, particularly electronics, pharmaceuticals, petroleum products, tea, coffee and spices.
He said that conflicting statements by the Commerce Minister, the Finance Minister and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval reflected confusion and avoidance of accountability.
He further alleged that the government was compromising national self-respect and sovereignty, claiming India was being portrayed internationally as a “thief” under monitoring arrangements, including scrutiny of India’s oil purchases and US has threatened a 25 percent penalty tariff if India is found buying oil from Russia.
Calling the arrangement a betrayal of India’s economic principles over the past 75 years, Media & Publicity Chairman said, “This is not a deal; it is a surrender,” and warned that once compromises begin, “there is no end to it.” Saturday, February 7, 2026
