Impending agrarian crisis in Punjab

Spokespersons: Shri Partap Singh Bajwa: Around 180-185 lakh metric tonnes of rice is produced in Punjab and out of this, we custom mill around 99 percent of the rice and send it to the central pool and the PDS system.

There are approximately 5,500 rice shellers in Punjab and this is completely related to farming and rice and paddy. Last year also this problem came on a large scale that the rice of Punjab, which was bought by FCI, is lying in our godowns.

It has been 14 days now, in 14 days only about 5 lakh metric tonnes of rice has arrived so far. I have to say this with great regret to our Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann ji, that arrangements should have been made six months ago. We do not have the capacity to store even 5 percent of the rice now, there is no space left. And rice is such a crop which requires internal storage, godown, it cannot be kept outside.

I have clearly observed that the present BJP government is very angry with the farmers of Punjab. There is a program to destroy the economy of Punjab as part of a well-planned conspiracy. Punjab is suffering, so I came all the way from Punjab to Delhi, so that this message is loud and clear to the government of India. If the situation in Punjab worsens, if farming is ruined, then directlywe will hold the Modi government and the AAP government responsible for what is happening in Punjab. Monday, October 14, 2024
