Spokesperson: Shri Ajay Kumar Lallu and Shri Bhakt Charan Das: Shri Bhakt Charan Das said that BJD party had been in power in Odisha for 24 years. From 2000 to 2009, BJD and BJP together ruled Odisha and from 2009 to 2024, there was a single government under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik of Biju Janata Dal.
Whenever BJD needed a strategy for its own benefit, they adopted it. Apart from selfishness, no attention was paid to the problems of the people of the state, be it Dalits, tribals, backward class people or women. In the 8-month government of BJD, the Chief Minister himself admits that 3,420 women and 8,403 children are missing. Along with this, 54 gang rapes have taken place in these 8 months.
There is a need to pay attention to this and we demand that those who fight for the rights of the people and girls along with the Constitution and those who run the government should pay attention to this. Respected Excellency should pay attention to this, Respected Madam President, Government of India should pay attention to this and if efforts are not made today to stop such heinous crimes, then it will keep on increasing. Look at the terrible way in which the crime rate has changed in Odisha, till 2022, there was 9.3 percent crime against women in Odisha. 21 thousand cases in 2024, that is an increase of about 8 percent and that too mostly tribal and Dalit women are affected in this.
The question is when will we get justice? If justice is not given, if the government is unable to deliver justice, then the honourable Supreme Court should take cognizance and after investigating and examining the matter through a sitting judge, it should give a directive to the government to change its attitude. The government should respond to such a sensitive issue with its approach and responsibility, which is the responsibility of the government.
Shri Ajay Kumar Lallu said - The law-and-order situation in Odisha is completely in shambles. The honourable Speaker has just placed the incidents before you point-by-point, the figures are even more frightening. The Chief Minister has said in the House that 44 thousand women, children and girls are missing. The figure of 44 thousand shows what the double engine government is doing in the name of women’s safety in Odisha?
The women of the state where goddess Subhadra is worshipped are asking the government where is our Subhadra? Every day 39 women are going missing in the country, this is the NCRB data, out of which 13 are from Odisha alone and in eight months 54 rape cases and more than 1,600 rape and murder cases have been registered. The missing cases are on record. There are many such cases which have not come on record till now, no case has been registered, no search has been conducted, no police action has been taken and no government has taken any action.
We have a question for the government, for the Home Minister that will the Hon’ble Home Minister hold a meeting of workers only, will he hold a meeting of party organizations or will he also discuss the situation of the state? Where is his intelligence? Where is the intelligence of the Odisha government? Friday, March 7, 2025
