Spokesperson: Shri Pawan Khera: He said that in the premises of the Parliament, where we all used to sit on dharna and do peaceful demonstrations to protect parliamentary decorum, the Constitution and democracy, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the statue of Veer Shiromani Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, all these statues were removed from there. What is this pain, what is this anger?
The pain is that those who wanted to make ‘One Nation, One Reincarnation’, ‘One Nation, One God’, said in the middle of the elections that no one knew Mahatma Gandhi until a movie was released. People gave a befitting reply to those people. To vent out their anger, they uprooted Mahatma Gandhi’s statue from there.
Rahul Gandhi ji, Mallikarjun Kharge sahab, all our leaders, Priyanka ji, during the entire election campaign, they had started a campaign to save the Constitution more than the campaign itself, because the clouds of danger that were hovering over the Constitution were coming from 7 Lok Kalyan Marg itself. So, they also vented their anger against Babasaheb Ambedkar ji. His statue was also uprooted from here. What steps did they take to take revenge from the people of Maharashtra - they uprooted the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from here.
We demand that the two committees that were formed, one committee is the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the maintenance and development of the heritage character of the Parliament House complex and the other is the committee on installing pictures and statues of national leaders and MPs in the Parliament House complex. These are the two committees.
You will be surprised to know that the last meeting of these committees on portraits and statues was held on December18, 2018. There has been no meeting for six years and yesterday when this issue was raised, they again lied that talks were held with political parties, whereas no talks were held with any political party.
So, we want this clarification. You tell the people of India that Babasaheb Ambedkar belongs to everyone, Mahatma Gandhi belongs to the whole world. You tell us all what is your intention behind removing the statues of these great personalities? Do you want to render us incapable of opposing you by sitting at the feet of these people. We will make you accountable and you will have to answer all these questions to the public inside and outside the Parliament. - Friday, June 7, 2024
