Spokesperson: Ms. Surpriya Shrinate: The Chairperson of the Social Media and Digital Platforms Ms. Supriya Shrinate accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shedding crocodile tears over the Women’s Reservation, the Congress made it categorically clear that what was defeated in the Lok Sabha on April 17 was not the Women Reservation Bill, but the Delimitation Bill.
The Party noted that the Women Reservation Bill was passed unanimously by the parliament on September 21, 2023, and it is part of the Constitution now. “Women Reservation bill was not defeated, Delimitation, which you wanted to thrust on the nation, was defeated”, she said.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s speech to the nation over the rejection of the amendment bill in the parliament, the senior Congress leader reaffirmed her Party’s and opposition’s stand that if he was really serious and sincere, let him bring the law and provide reservation to women within the 543 strengths of the Lok Sabha immediately.
She pointed out, the law was unanimously passed in September 2023. “You have put a condition on that. Remove that condition. You are the ones creating hurdles in women’s reservation, you want to keep men happy and not reduce their seats”, she told the Prime Minister.
Referring to Prime Minister’s remarks during the speech that he owed an apology to the women, Ms. Shrinate said that he (the PM) was right as he does owe an apology to women of the country for what happened to two Manipur women during riots, what happened in Hathras and Unnao and what happened with the women Olympians and how the convicts in Bilkis Bano case were honoured and Modi kept silent every time.
Besides, she noted that in Modi’s government there are people like Hardeep Puri with proven links with convicted sex predator Jeffery Epstein and the Prime Minister still protecting them. She also referred to the information in the public domain that Modi took advice from Epstein and visited US and Israel at his instance.
The Congress spokesperson reminded Modi how he addressed Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi, who has lost her husband for the country, as “Congress’ widow”, how he described a married woman as a “Rs. 50 crore girlfriend”, compared a woman parliamentarian with “Shroopnakha” and how he heckled Ms Mamta Bannerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister as “Didi, oh Didi”.
She said that 5 BJP lawmakers were facing serious rape charges and 54 MPs’ and MLAs’ names are mentioned in serious crimes like murder and rape. Ms. Shrinate reminded the Prime Minister that it was the Congress under late Rajiv Gandhi which originally introduced the Women Reservation in 1989 and which was at that time opposed by the BJP veterans like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, Jaswant Singh and Ram Jethmalani.
On the Delimitation, the Congress spokesperson questioned the Prime Minister’s claims of 50 percent proportionate increase, pointing out it was nowhere mentioned in the draft bill. She said, even after the 50 percent proportionate increase, the overall proportion of the southern states will come down from the existing proportion.
Asking Prime Minister as why would the country trust him, she pointed out, how the nation had been betrayed by his promises of bringing in black money from abroad and depositing Rs. 15 lakh in every Indian’s bank account, providing 2 crore jobs every year, bringing the value of rupee at par with dollar, which is now running towards Rs. 100 per dollar and many other such fake promises. Noting that Prime Minister Modi had lost his confidence, Ms. Shrinate said, “one thing is clear whenever I see Modi or listen to him, I see a tired and defeated man, who has no idea that the ground beneath his feet has already slipped away”.
