PM out to take credit for the slum redevelopment scheme launched by Congress in Delhi

Spokespersons: Ms. SupriyaShrinate, Shri Subhash Chopra and Shri Anil Bhardwaj: Ms. Supriya Shrinate said that we have come before you with a very important issue. Today, this entire one full-page ad has been published in every newspaper of Delhi which has been about slums and their in-situ rehabilitation.

We want to present some things before you, so that a few things may be exposed. Now, the ad of the paper says that 3024 new flats built in Kalka ji are going to be inaugurated. No one should have any objection with, but it is necessary to keep some facts before you.

Modi ji is fond of cutting ribbons (for inaugurations as per tradition). What is in-situ scheme – houses for poor people at the same places where they have their slums. That is the in-situ scheme. The foundation stone of this scheme was laid on September 18, 2013, by our respected late Smt. Sheila Dikshit, former Chief Minister. Total 8064 houses were to be built. 3024 houses were to be built in Phase One. Phase One would have started in 2013 and ended in 2016. Phase One would have ended within 3 years which is actually getting ended in 2022, after 9 years with a delay of 6 years. The total cost of this project was 206 crores of Phase One which has been brought to345 crores. With an increase of about 68 percent.

Secondly, Phase Two was to start after the completion of Phase One. People were supposed to shift to those houses and in Phase Two new houses were to be built at the newly vacated places. But, Phase Two is not ready yet.

When these houses were to be built at a cost of 206 crores, it was supposed to include Anganwadi, health centre, school, garden, community centre, religious places as well. Presently, houses are ready but only structurally. There is no mention of any such thing, more things were to be built, this scheme was made by Congress. Wednesday, November 2, 2022.
