Spokesperson: Smt. Ragini Nayak: Dr. Ragini Nayak demanded that the accounts of nearly ` 1,400 crore collected from devotees across the country for the construction of the Ram Temple before the formation of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust be made public. She also sought a detailed account of the gold and silver bricks donated by the Sindhi and Vaishya communities. She questioned the investigation into the theft of offerings at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, alleging that lower-level employees were being made scapegoats while senior functionaries, including former General Secretary of the Ram Temple Trust Champat Rai, were being shielded from accountability.

Calling for the immediate dissolution of the Trust, Dr Ragini Nayak demanded that its functioning and all financial transactions be investigated under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court of India. She also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on the issue and clarify the government’s position.

The Congress spokesperson alleged that although a trust backed by the Shankaracharyas had expressed willingness to oversee the construction of the Ram Temple following the Supreme Court verdict, the Modi government instead constituted the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust with individuals associated with the BJP and RSS.

She further remarked that the Trust had been deliberately kept outside the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act to prevent public scrutiny of its financial transactions. Nayak questioned whether people linked to the BJP and RSS were inducted into the Trust to facilitate financial irregularities without accountability.

Dr. Ragini Nayak accusing the BJP government of protecting the main culprits, said that around 70 theft incidents had taken place inside the Ram Temple complex over a span of 40 days. She stated that stolen donation money was concealed in toilets after evading CCTV surveillance, and noted that investigators had found no backup of CCTV footage. She further asserted that no proper record of thefts over the past five years had been made available and questioned why no FIR had been registered against Champat Rai. She asked whether all this would have been possible without government patronage.

The Congress leader also questioned why the report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government following public pressure, had not been made public, asking who was being protected by withholding the findings.

Stepping up the attack on the BJP and RSS, she said that those involved in irregularities at a temple dedicated to Lord Ram were committing a grave moral wrong. She alleged that after “vote theft” and “seat theft,” the theft of temple offerings had hurt the sentiments of millions of Indians.

She categorically said that the Prime Minister had taken full credit for the construction of the Shri Ram Temple, but was now silent on the theft of offerings; he must also accept responsibility for this betrayal of the people’s faith. Friday July 3, 2026
