A Mockery of Democracy

This month, the Courts have endorsed what the Congress Party has been saying for many years now. The RSS-Modi government has no respect for democracy and freely uses all means at its disposal in its attempt to murder democracy and seize all power for itself. The Courts have given two decisions in which they have used the strongest possible language to condemn the Modi Government’s blatant misuse of power to subvert the democratic process.

In its first decision, the Honorable Supreme Court told the Government that the electoral bonds that have been introduced is an attack on the transparency and fairness of our democracy. This scheme was introduced by the Modi Government to allow its wealthy friends to fund the BJP - all while retaining complete anonymity. This means that the BJP could get unlimited money from those whom it had obliged without ever having to disclose to the people who was paying them money. The Court rightly recognized that this is nothing more than a mechanism to sell India’s democracy to the highest bidder. It issued a historic judgement to strike down this scheme and exposed the anti-democratic instincts of the Modi Government.

The incidence that sparked the second decision was equally shocking. In a blatant misuse of power, the Modi Government used officials to tamper ballots and rig the election for the Mayor of Chandigarh. The sad affair involved government servants working on behalf of their masters in the Modi government to tamper ballots and alter the outcomes of elections. The Courts rightly pulled up the Government and reversed the outcome of this mockery of democracy. It also used the strongest possible words to question the government’s intent and commitment to democracy.

It is heartening to see Modi ji’s true intent being publicly questioned and condemned as we come up to the Lok Sabha elections. There is no doubt that what the Courts are seeing are also seen and understood by the people of India. The people are beginning to recognize that the RSS-Modi regime can never respect democracy and the Constitution. There is no doubt that this is the beginning of a wave that will sweep this Government out of power in the coming days.

Jai Congress. Jai Hind. Jai Jagat.
