Modi Ji’s Directionless Government

The World is undergoing fundamental shifts in technology, economics and politics. New technologies such as drones, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing are set to transform the way humans live and society functions. These technologies are now emerging and there is a battle underway for leadership in these technologies. At the same time, the global economic system is also undergoing fundamental transformations. The World is deeply dependent upon China for its manufacturing, U.S. President Trump’s tariffs are challenging the global system of trade, and the dominance of the American dollar is at risk. These transformations are rewriting the global balance of power. China is challenging the United States. Conflicts are underway in many regions of the World and new alliances are being forged among countries. The churning is underway that will determine the new global power-structure.

This is a time of great opportunity for India if we are aware of these developments and make wise choices. This is also a time of great risk for India if we are ignorant of these forces and sleep through this transition. Unfortunately, the Modi government is showing every sign that it is utterly ignorant of these developments in the World. Let alone exploit the opportunities of these transitions, they do not even seem to have a clue about how to protect India’s interests in the World. India has failed to invest in emerging technologies and is dependent almost entirely upon imports for critical components. We have no strategy to deal with the restructuring of the global economy. Our foreign policy is dictated not by national interests but by Modi Ji’s interests in developing his brand and getting business deals for his wealthy friends. The only strategy Modi ji and the RSS have is to keep communal tensions simmering and gather votes in the name of protecting Hindus.

The Nation will pay a severe price for the Government’s failure to understand and respond to these global shifts. Not only will India suffer pain in the short-term, we will also be at a disadvantage in the long-term against the Countries that are making the most of today’s opportunities. The Congress Party must make every effort to awaken the Country to this reality before it is too late to salvage India’s global position.

Jai Congress. Jai Hind. Jai Jagat.
