Modi’s Abject Surrender

The United States and Israel have attacked Iran and started another war in one of the most sensitive regions of the World. Iran has responded by attacking countries in the region which host American bases. Iran has also shut sea traffic in the critical Strait of Hormuz.

This conflict has enormous implications for India and the World. The Gulf region supplies a large portion of the crude oil and natural gas that fuels the global economy. Both the production and transportation of these products is under threat. The price of oil has shot-up and this threatens large importers like India with both slower economic growth and inflation. The situation with natural gas is even more dire. A bulk of India’s imports come from Qatar and are shipped through the Strait of Hormuz. The gas needed for Indian kitchens, power-plants and fertilizer plants is being choked off. In addition, lacs of Indians live and work in the Gulf countries being attacked by Iran. Their safety and security are at risk. These Indians send billions of dollars every year to their families in India and bolster the Indian economy. These remittances are now under threat.

In short, this conflict threatens both - the Indian economy and the everyday lives of the Indian people. It is in times such as these that a nation needs leadership from its Prime Minister. But as usual, what Modi ji has given us is a complete surrender to America. Just a few hours before America and Israel began their attack, Modi ji visited Israel, declared his support to their Prime Minister and gave India’s backing to the attack by America and Israel. A few days later, Iran’s supreme leader was assassinated by America. India has refused to speak against the assassination of a leader with whom India has had a long relationship. Now that Iran has shut the Strait of Hormuz, India’s supply of liquified gas is under threat. India is left with no standing in the World stage by which to secure its supplies. As discussions begin to bring peace to the region, India is nowhere to be seen.

Under Modi’s surrender-raj, India has been reduced to a marginal country which will follow whatever directions the Americans give us. This is a shameful loss of prestige for a country that once showed the entire World the way to end conflicts and build peace.
