Recolonizing India

The past month will be written in dark letters in India’s history. For in this month, the Modi-RSS government has shown the full extent of its contempt for the Constitution and its determination to turn India back into a colony.

When we passed our Constitution, the most fundamental change for an India was that they went from being a subject of a king to a citizen of a republic. The most basic difference between the subject and the citizen is that the lives of subjects are at the mercy of the king whereas citizens have rights which are theirs by birth. The foundation laid by the Constitution and the rights-based laws passed by many governments since established many such rights for the people of India.

In the last few months, we have seen a frontal attack on many of these rights. The Right to Education has been steadily diluted over the past years with the closing of government schools and the making of funds given to states, subject to the RSS-designed New Education Policy. The ‘Right to Information’ is being compromised by selecting information commissioners who owe their allegiance to the government rather than the people of India. The right of factory laborers to unionize, strike and demand their rights has been diluted by the passage of the four new labor laws. The right to vote is being compromised by an SIR exercise that is leaving large number of voters out even as it is killing the government officials responsible for undertaking the exercise. But the most shocking attack is upon the right to work. The MGNREGA, which is an act that guarantees a family 100 days of employment has been reduced to a sham called VB G RAM G (Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Gramin) that only ensures that the right to work is no more. Meanwhile, the government’s mission of handing India’s wealth to foreign hands continues unabated. The insurance sector is the latest area where companies can be entirely foreign owned. The Shanti Act limits the liability of foreign partners in case of a mishap in a nuclear project, thereby, leaving Indians to bear the cost. Meanwhile, the only debate the Modi government was interested in undertaking in this session was about our National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’.

The RSS has shown that it is the British Raj of the new age. Divide us on religion. Enslave our people and transfer the wealth of our people to foreign hands.

The Congress fought and ended the colonialism of the British. We will fight and end the colonization being attempted today.

Jai Congress. Jai Hind. Jai Jagat
