Mumbai: The two-day meeting of the opposition I.N.D.I.A. (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) coalition held in the country’s financial capital Mumbai, concluded on September 1, with the Party leaders releasing a joint statement saying “together as far as possible.”
The meeting, attended by 28 political parties and 63 representatives, commenced in Mumbai on August 31 as leaders from opposition parties from across the country huddled together to finalise the strategy for taking on the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
I.N.D.I.A resolved to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 together as far as possible and said the seat-sharing arrangements will be concluded at the earliest in a spirit of give-and-take. The alliance adopted a resolution to this effect and said its theme for the elections will be “Judega Bharat, Jeetega India, (India will unite, India will win)”.
“We, the INDIA parties, hereby resolve to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections together as far as possible. Seat-sharing arrangements in different states will be initiated immediately and concluded at the earliest in a collaborative spirit of give-and-take.
We, the INDIA parties, hereby resolve to organize public rallies at the earliest in different parts of the country on issues of public concern and importance.
We, the INDIA parties, hereby resolve to coordinate our respective communications and media strategies and campaigns with the theme ‘Judega Bharat, Jiteega India’ in different languages.” The opposition bloc INDIA has announced a 13-member Coordination Committee and two additional committees have been formed at the meeting - one is INDIA alliance’s campaign committee which has 19 members. 2nd is on INDIA alliance’s Working Group for Social Media.
Earlier in the day, Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge addressed the meeting and hit out at the BJP-led central government, accusing them of “playing vendetta politics”. He alleged that the government will increasingly misuse the agencies against Opposition leaders as the INDIA bloc gains ground.
Congress President Shri Kharge further said, “Every segment of society, including farmers, youth, women, the marginalised, middle class, intellectuals, NGOs, and journalists, have suffered from the BJP’s authoritarian rule”.
Sharing the group photograph of opposition leaders taken ahead of the meeting, Shri Kharge wrote on X, “We are united for a progressive, welfare-oriented, inclusive India. No matter how many diversions and distractions the ruling regime throws at the people, the citizens of India shall not be betrayed any more. 140 Cr Indians have decided to usher in change. The countdown of this autocratic government’s exit has begun.”
Asserting that a united INDIA will ensure the BJP’s defeat, former Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the Prime Minister for his nexus with a leading businessman and also for lying about the Chinese occupation of Indian territory in Ladakh. He also said that the PM and the BJP were a nexus of corruption. He asserted that a united INDIA will ensure the defeat of the BJP. He expressed confidence that once the INDIA partners decide to fight together, the BJP will certainly be defeated.
Speaking about the progress made by INDIA, Shri Rahul Gandhi appreciated the flexibility shown by the leaders of the alliance. He observed, it had led to forging of relationships between the leaders of different parties. He said, although differences were there, these were being minimised and ironed out.
