‘Mahagathbandhan to work for uplift of Dalits, EBCs and women of Bihar’, says Shri Rahul Gandhi

Patna: Lok Sabha Opposition leader and Congress MP Shri Rahul Gandhi on April 7, 2025, said that Mahagathbandhan or grand alliance comprising RJD, Congress and Left parties in Bihar will work unitedly for uplifting the Dalits, EBCs (extremely backward classes) and women.

Addressing ‘Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan’ in the state capital, Leader of Opposition (LS) Shri Rahul Gandhi lamented that people from these backward communities have not been given proportionate representation in political, institutional and corporate sectors.

Defining the role of Congress in uplift of the downtrodden, a Congress leader said, “We have told Bihar Congress team to ensure representation of EBCs, OBCs, Dalits, Mahadalits and women so that doors are opened for them.”

He raised the concern of protecting the Constitution calling it the ‘Soul of India’ through which people get the power to move forward and raise voices for their rights. He said that the people of Bihar have always shown direction to India and added that he was confident that they would do it again in the coming assembly elections. Assembly elections in Bihar are due in October-November of this year.

“Ambedkar ji fought for Dalits. He understood the pain and the truth of the Dalits. And he fought for Dalits. That is why Mahatma Gandhi’s biography is named ‘My Experiment with Truth’ and not ‘My Experiment with Lies’, Congress leader said while taking a dig at PM Modi’s hollow promises made to the people during elections.

Accusing BJP-RSS of preventing caste census in the country, former Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi said that the Grand Old Party would ensure a nation-wide caste census when it comes to power. “Congress will do X-ray of India through caste census for benefit of socially backward classes.”

He referred to the case of Telangana to substantiate his commitment. He said that a similar exercise conducted in Telangana will change the development model of the country. He vowed to demolish 50 per cent cap on reservations and said that the Congress would do it when it came to power. He alleged that he had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha to remove the 50 per cent reservation cap but he didn’t pay heed to his demand. He reiterated his commitment to implement it when Congress would be voted to power.

“The people of Bihar will win this battle because Bihar has shown the way to this country,” he said. Talking about recent changes in the Party organization in Bihar in which new District Presidents had been appointed, Shri Rahul Gandhi said that earlier, District Presidents were from upper castes, but the new list had two-thirds of the people from EBC, OBC, Dalit, backward class and minority classes.

Road to defeating BJP at national level is through Gujarat, Shri Rahul Gandhi tells Party workers

Modasa (Gujarat): Former Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi on April 16, 2025, told Party workers that the route to defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) nationally was through Gujarat and only his Party was capable of defeating them ideologically.

He made these comments at Modasa town in Aravalli district of north Gujarat while launching the Sangathan Srijan Abhigyan, or the campaign to build Party organization. Shri Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress had foundational roots in the State. “In a way, the Congress came into existence from Gujarat because two of the Party’s great leaders — Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel — were from this State,” he said.

“This is a battle of ideologies. There are only two parties which have ideologies — one is the BJP and other is the Congress. And, only the Congress can defeat the BJP and the RSS. Gujarat is the most important State for the Party because the path to BJP’s defeat goes through Gujarat,” former Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi added.

Following up on the decision taken at the Ahmedabad session of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC), the Congress leader laid out the road map for revamping the organization in the State, promising to reward leaders on the basis of performance and remove those who are either inactive or “work for the BJP”.

“We have to identify the people who are with the BJP and politely tell them - Step aside and make way for others. There shouldn’t be any use of force,” he said. Outlining the new approach, he said that a five-member committee of one AICC observer and four State observers will meet Party workers in each district and shortlist names of five or six probable candidates who can be made District Presidents.

The chosen District President will take decisions to run the district unit without any interference or instructions “from above”, and these district heads will have a greater say in the selection of candidates for Assembly elections, he promised.

He further stated that the District Presidents should be handed responsibility and power. “Our District President will not be a compromised candidate,” he said, adding, “There must be a connection between the Party organization and poll candidates. Many times, after winning an election, the MLA does not bother about the organization which had played an important role in his victory. Now, the organization will select candidates.” He said that the Party would start a healthy competition instead of ‘destructive competition’, map performance of leaders in their respective areas, and make a sincere outreach to attract young people.

Democratic politics have fundamentally changed globally, says Shri Rahul Gandhi

Hyderabad: Addressing the Bharat Summit 2025 in Hyderabad on April 26, 2025, Senior Congress leader Shri Rahul Gandhi said that democratic politics have fundamentally changed across the globe and the rules that applied a decade ago no longer hold good.

Addressing a gathering at Bharat Summit 2025, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi said that in today’s aggressive political atmosphere, the aim is to crush the opposition and undermine the media. Reflecting on his experiences during ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, Shri Gandhi said that he realized that politicians have failed to listen to people’s voices.

Reflecting on his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, Shri Gandhi shared two key lessons: “First, our opponents have a monopoly on anger and fear—we cannot fight them on that ground. But during the yatra, I discovered the transformative power of listening. I spoke less and listened more, and that changed everything.”

He also shared a moving story of a woman who joined the yatra, despite fears of domestic violence, highlighting the importance of truly hearing people’s struggles. “Our opposition believes they know all the answers. But it is the people who know what needs to be done— and we must listen,” he said.

The second lesson, he said, was about embracing love in politics. “Until the yatra, I had never used the word ‘love’ in politics. But once I did, people began to respond. Love and affection can disrupt hate more powerfully than any argument.”

“Politics, democratic politics have fundamentally changed across the globe. The rules that applied, I would say, a decade ago simply do not apply any more. Sometimes, when I speak to younger members of our Party, what was effective 10 years ago, the tools that worked 10 years ago, simply do not work anymore,” he said.

“So in a sense, the old politician is dead and a new kind of politician has to be constructed,” he said. Shri Rahul Gandhi also mentioned that he was originally scheduled to address the summit on Friday, but had to travel to Kashmir instead.

Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi concluded by saying, “Disagreements on policy will always exist. But while their lens is anger, hatred, and fear, our lens must be love, affection, and deep listening. I am confident this summit will help build the ideas we need for a new kind of politics in India and the world.”

Shri Rahul Gandhi thanked the delegates of Bharat Summit for their solidarity with India in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack. The Bharat Summit, a two-day conclave focused on promoting meaningful dialogue on global justice, equity, and progressive cooperation.

Telangana Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy, addressing international delegates, showcased his government’s progressive welfare policies. “We have implemented the largest farmer debt waiver in India—Rs. 20,674 crore—and provide over Rs. 20,000 crore annually in agricultural subsidies,” he said. Highlighting women’s empowerment, he added, “Our women entrepreneurs are competing with Adani and Ambani.”

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka noted that the presence of over 450 international delegates had provided the right platform to exchange ideas on global justice and peace, in alignment with Shri Rahul Gandhi’s vision of NYAY.

In a significant milestone, Congress leaders and global delegates collectively adopted the Hyderabad Resolution, a 44-point agenda under the theme ‘Delivering Global Justice’. The resolution reaffirms a shared commitment to the values of freedom, equality, justice, and solidarity, uniting social-democratic, socialist, and labour movements from around the world.
