Reaffirms support for Women’s Reservation; seeks immediate implementation
New Delhi: Addressing the Media on April 15, 2026, after the Opposition Meeting, Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge said that all the opposition parties unanimously decided to oppose the proposed delimitation in one voice in Parliament. At the same time, they reaffirmed their support for Women’s Reservation and demanded its implementation from the 2029 General Elections. Congress President said, “We are all in favour of the Women’s Reservation Bill, but the way in which they (the government) have brought it, we have got reservations.” He noted that it was a politically motivated move just to suppress the opposition parties. “We all have decided that we will continue supporting women’s reservation as we did in 2010 and in 2023, as we unanimously accepted the constitutional amendment,” he added.
The Congress President insisted that the opposition wanted the government to implement the Women’s Reservation Bill, as passed in 2023, immediately.
Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge made it categorically clear that the entire opposition was against the proposed delimitation. Besides, he also noted that the government was giving powers of Parliament to the executive, pointing out how the Delimitation Commission worked in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir to favour the BJP.
