Shri Rahul leads mammoth march against Special Intensive Revision in Patna Revision an attempt to steal Bihar election like Maharashtra: Shri Rahul Gandhi

Patna: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi on July 9, 2025, led a mammoth march of the INDIA bloc in Patna, to protest against the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. He was accompanied by senior leaders of the INDIA bloc and joined by tens of thousands of people.

Addressing the huge gathering, Shri Gandhi said, the special revision is just an attempt to steal the election of Bihar, the way the BJP stole the Maharashtra election. He observed that since the BJP had realised that its Maharashtra model of increasing voters and votes had been exposed, now it has come out with the new Bihar model. But, he asserted, the INDIA bloc will not let that happen. The senior Congress leader warned the Election Commissioners against acting in a partisan way like the BJP and the RSS workers. He told them that they are not there to do the bidding of the RSS and the BJP, but to protect the Constitution and the electoral rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

At the same time, he made it categorically clear that the law of the land will eventually catch up with all those who were acting in a partisan manner. “No matter how big you are and no matter where you go, the law of the land will catch up with you and you will be held accountable for everything”, he told the partisan officials in no ambiguous terms.

Giving an example of the partisan role played by the Election Commission, he said, the Congress and the INDIA bloc had been demanding that they be provided the video footage of the polling process and also the electoral rolls used during the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Maharashtra. However, the EC had still not provided any of the requested material and had instead changed the rules on providing video footage.

While cautioning the people of Bihar against the BJP’s attempts to steal the elections, he pointed out how the BJP had managed to steal Maharashtra Assembly elections, just within a few months after losing the Lok Sabha elections in the state. He disclosed that nearly 75 lakh new voters were added within a short span of time. He said, all the constituencies where the voters were added in unusually huge numbers were won by the BJP. “This is not merely an attempt to steal your election, but also to steal your future”, he told the cheering crowds, while assuring them that the INDIA bloc will not let the BJP deny the poor their voting right and steal the election.

Leader of the Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi led a Mahagathbandhan march to the Election Commission's office in Patna. Shri Gandhi, along with other leaders, was atop a vehicle during the protest march, which started at Income Tax Golambar in Patna.

The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, who arrived in the state capital in the morning, was accompanied by RJD leader Shri Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Shri Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI General Secretary Shri D Raja, AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Kumar, MP Tariq Anwar, MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh and senior leaders of the state.

Assembly elections in Bihar are scheduled for October–November this year. The State has 7.89 crore registered voters, including more than 3 crore migrants, primarily from the flood-prone districts of north Bihar.

'Crime capital of India': Shri Rahul Gandhi slams Nitish, BJP over Patna murder

Earlier, Congress leader Shri Rahul Gandhi on July 6, 2025, launched a sharp attack on the BJP and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the murder of prominent businessman in Patna, blaming them for making the state “crime capital of India”. The businessman, Gopal Khemka, was shot dead near his residence in the Gandhi Maidan area late Friday night by a bike-borne assailant.

'Every murder is a cry for change': Shri Rahul Gandhi

In a post in Hindi on X, Shri Rahul Gandhi said, “The brazen murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna has once again proven that the BJP and Nitish Kumar together have turned Bihar into India’s crime capital. Today, Bihar lives in the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the new normal here — and the government is utterly ineffective.”

“Brothers and sisters of Bihar, this injustice can no longer be tolerated. A government that cannot ensure the safety of your children cannot be entrusted with your future either,” he added. The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha called upon voters to bring change in the upcoming assembly elections. “Every murder, every loot, every bullet is a cry for change. Now is the time for a new Bihar — where there is no fear, only progress. This time, the vote is not just to change the government, but to save Bihar,” he said.
