Congress will remove quota cap if elected to power, says Shri Rahul Gandhi

Former Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi, on his first visit to Bihar after becoming the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, on January 18, 2025, slammed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party for being anti-Constitution and asserted that 20-25 billionaires own the wealth of the country. Bihar has become the country’s labour factory. The RSS and BJP are anti-Constitution and on coming to power, our government would remove the 50% reservation cap after determining the population of caste groups and their representation in governance,”Shri Rahul Gandhi said while addressing Congress functionaries and workers at the Party’s State headquarters in Patna, the Sadaqat Ashram.

Earlier, he addressed the ‘Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan’ (Save Constitution Conclave) organized by social organizations at the Bapu Sabhagar auditorium in the city. “There is an election in Bihar coming this year and Bihar is known for bringing in change in the country’s politics. You Congress workers and leaders are our Babbar Sher lions and tigers. Our Party’s ideology is in your blood and DNA. You will fight for the Constitution and against the BJP-RSS ideology”, Shri RahulGandhi said, enthusing Party workers and leaders in the poll-bound State. The Assembly election in Bihar is due in October-November.

While slamming the Bihar government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, ShriGandhi said, “The caste survey done by the Bihar government released in 2023 was fake and when our government returns to power, a caste census will be held across the country to know the exact population of castes and their representation in governance”. He further said, “Bihar’s youth are grappling with lack of employment. Farmers, Dalits, and the Backward Classes are facing problems and we will defeat the BJP to remove all these problems.

Meeting with Tejashwi

Before arriving at the conclave, Shri Rahul Gandhi met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and left for the conclave after a brief exchange of pleasantries with Shri Yadav. Earlier, the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) accorded a warm welcome to Shri Rahul Gandhi at Sadaqat Ashram, where Shri Rahul Gandhi inaugurated a newly constructed staff quarters and refurbished auditorium named after former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, respectively.

Shri Rahul Gandhi visits BPSC protest site in Patna, assures full support to students

Patna: Congress leader Shri Rahul Gandhi on January 18, 2025, threw his weight behind the protests against alleged irregularities in BPSC exams, by visiting the site of the nearly a month-old agitation here and spending several minutes with aggrieved students.

After Shri Rahul Gandhi winded up his pre-decided engagements, during which he also made a veiled reference to the protests with the remark “Bihar has been converted into a centre of paper leaks”, a delegation of students called on him.

The delegation urged him to visit Gardani Bagh where several aspirants have been on a round the clock protest, seeking cancellation of Combined Competitive Exam held last month. Shri Rahul Gandhi squatted in the midst of young men and women who have been carrying on their ‘dharna’ under a makeshift tent. He was seen patiently listening to the candidates who raised slogans “We want a re-exam” and also highlighted their anguish over the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar failing to give them a hearing.
