Interaction with the Media
New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi on the second part of the Budget Session of Parliament on March 9, 2026, said that the ongoing war in West Asia is seriously damaging our economy, but our compromised Prime Minister lacks the courage to discuss it.
In an informal interaction with media-reporters outside Parliament, he cautioned that the ongoing war in West Asia that seeks a paradigm shift in global politics could threaten the Indian economy with huge losses. He pointed out that the impact of the West Asian crisis had already started being felt with the rise in the prices of LPG, huge losses in the stock market and global crude oil prices reaching historic levels. He said that all of these factors are directly impacting the common man, household budgets, and small and medium-sized businesses.
Shri Rahul Gandhi said that the developments in West Asia were a matter of public concern and should be discussed in Parliament. He said that the Opposition was demanding a discussion because the issue directly affects the people of the country and the Indian economy.
He questioned what the problem was in discussing the ongoing developments in West Asia, particularly when they were having a devastating impact on the Indian economy. “Isn’t all that important?” he asked, adding that PM Modi will not let the discussion happen as he is being blackmailed and is afraid of more revelations.
Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi pointed out how the Prime Minister ran away from the Parliament. “He will not be able to come back to Parliament again”, he remarked.
He said, the other issues, such as the motion against the Speaker, could be discussed later in Parliament and that the Opposition parties were ready to discuss those as well.
