Congress’ 140th Foundation Day
New Delhi: The Congress celebrated its 140th Foundation Day with enthusiasm at the Party headquarters, Indira Bhawan in New Delhi. Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge unfurled the Party flag in the presence of Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary (Organisation) Shri KC Venugopal, Treasurer Shri Ajay Maken, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and CWC Members and several senior Party leaders and workers from across the country. Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge addressed the August gathering on the Foundation Day function of the Indian National Congress.
The Congress President said that India’s survival as the world’s largest democracy was due to the vision and sacrifices of Congress leaders, contrasting it with several post-colonial nations that slid into dictatorship. Shri Mallikarjun Kharge’s tweet: On this Foundation Day, I want to make one thing clear to those who say...“The Congress is finished.”
I want to tell them - we may have less power, but our spine is still strong.
We have not compromised. • Not with the Constitution • Not with secularism • Not with the rights of the poor We may not be in power, but we will not compromise. The Congress Party has never asked for votes in the name of religion. The Congress Party has never spread hatred in the name of temples and mosques. Congress unites. BJP divides. Congress kept religion as a matter of faith! But some people have turned religion into politics! Today, the BJP has power, but they do not have the truth.
Therefore –
• Sometimes statistics are hidden • Sometimes the census is stopped • Sometimes there is talk of changing the Constitution Those who are giving speeches on history today, their ancestors were running away from history. Congress is an ideology - and ideologies never die.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi on X post says-
Today, on the occasion of the Indian National Congress’ Foundation Day, I extend my heartfelt wishes to every Congress member.
We pay homage to the historical legacy and the great martyrs who brought independence to India, laid the foundation of the Constitution, and strengthened the values of democracy, secularism, social justice, and equality.
The Congress is not just a political party, but the voice of India’s soul – which has stood with every weak, every underprivileged, and every hardworking person.
We resolve to fight the battle for truth, courage, and the protection of the Constitution against hatred, injustice, and dictatorship with even greater strength. Jai Hind! Jai Congress!
