New Delhi: Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Shri Mallikarjun Kharge addressing the national convention of Rachnatmak Congress on August 13, 2026, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah avoided coming to Parliament and facing the Opposition for 20 days during the Monsoon Session.“Shah did not become Home Minister to sit in his chamber. He should have come to the House and shown the courage to answer the Opposition’s questions over the brutal action against students in Delhi.” Taking a dig at Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement that the government was ready for a discussion, Congress President said that the Home Minister’s offer, made a day before the session’s conclusion after remaining absent for 20 days, was merely a “deception”.

Shri Mallikarjun Kharge said that Modi and Shah would end up ruining the country, adding that “using lathis and suppressing voices” had become the principal policy of the ruling establishment. Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Congress’ basic philosophy was to unite the country and keep society together, while “some people sitting in power are working to create divisions among the people on the basis of religion”. He described the BJP and RSS as “two sides of the same coin” and referred to former BJP President JP Nadda’s statement that the Party had become capable of functioning on its own. He said that the RSS, on the other hand, claimed that the BJP existed because of it. “In reality, both are together pursuing the politics of division in the country,” he remarked.

He blamed on broadcasting system and said that whenever an Opposition leader speaks, Rajya Sabha TV cameras are turned away. Parliament, he said, was not a platform for the Prime Minister’s publicity but a forum where different viewpoints from across the country should be heard, debated and responded to within democratic norms. “Being a Modi bhakt alone will not benefit the country. We have to care about the country,” Congress President said. Highlighting former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s contribution, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge said that Congress governments had established public sector institutions and built major schools, colleges and universities that produced engineers, doctors and economists who contributed to nation-building. Taking a swipe at BJP leaders who criticise Nehru, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge said that those who were not even born during that period should ask their parents about Nehru’s historical contribution. He said that the RSS had always wanted to keep the country in subjugation and said people should know “who built the country and who is destroying it”.

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi addressing the national convention of Rachnatmak Congress on August 13, 2026, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had started having sleepless nights the government had realised that the country would not stop raising its voice. “We will not let Narendra Modi and Amit Shah sleep until they resign,” he asserted, adding that both would eventually give up on their own and tell the nation, “Please leave us”.

He said that as India has started expressing itself, a new hope has dawned across the country. He said that the Congress will ensure that both of them are made to go without any hatred and without any violence. “We will keep them awake the entire nights… till they don’t give up and say - please leave us. We will do it without violence or hatred… till they don’t collapse”, he said, adding, “We are fighting for the culture and tradition of India. Our country is not of hatred; it is of love, harmony, brotherhood and non-violence. We will prove it to everyone, everywhere.” Shri Rahul Gandhi also took a dig at the gross failure of India’s foreign policy under Prime Minister Modi. Enacting a visual scene, he hugged Sandeep Dikshit on the stage to explain to the audience how Modi believes that just a hug is the entire foreign policy and, in the process, he got trapped.

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha asserted that an Indian Prime Minister is not supposed to cultivate personal friendship over the national interest and he is supposed to watch the national interest only. “Don’t know how he started believing that hugging someone a few times will turn the person as his friend”, he noted, while pointing out without naming US President Donald Trump how he cornered him despite Modi believing him to be his friend.

Referring to the Iran War, he said that India at this time needed a Prime Minister like Smt. Indira Gandhi who could have brought Iran, the United States and Russia, all our friends, together to the negotiating table. He said that India lost a great opportunity to Pakistan which became a mediator, while Modi simply looked on.

Shri Rahul Gandhi also stated that China has prevented patrolling in our own areas in Arunachal Pradesh and the Prime Minister Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah were busy hushing up the news. He also referred to the Prime Minister's controversial statement after Galwan clashes that China had not occupied any of our land. He said that when our negotiators raised the matter with their Chinese counterparts, they (the Chinese) quoted Modi saying, “Your Prime Minister is saying that we (China) have not occupied any of your land.” He said that Modi had destroyed the country internally and externally also, and his entire focus was on strengthening his political structure and securing funds from Adani.

Taking a gibe at the RSS, Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi said that the RSS as the original force is dead and it has been captured and is being used by the large capital like Ambani and Adani. He noted that the RSS ceased to exist long ago. He said that the RSS was an expression of the small Indian businessman like a goldsmith, a jeweller, shopkeeper or sweetshop owner. He said that they all have been destroyed by demonetisation and wrong GST. “Today the RSS is an instrument of large capital. They are servants of Mr. Adani, just like Mr. Modi is a servant of Mr. Adani”, he remarked. He said that to understand India, it is important to understand its today’s expression and it cannot be understood by its past alone like what happened 3000 years ago.

He said that the job of the RSS is to impose their philosophy and order that benefits them on others, while our (Congress’) job is to make India express itself and break that order (of the RSS). Shri Rahul Gandhi said, “He (Amit Shah) used to be hailed as 'Chanakya' and Sardar Patel, but where has he disappeared? He has run away. For twenty days, he couldn’t come to Parliament. For the first time, they were feeling India’s expression and now they have realised that India will not stop expressing itself.”
