Prime Minister sold out India’s poor, farmers to get Adani case closed in US: Shri Rahul Gandhi

First Day

Prime Minister sold out India’s poor, farmers to get Adani case closed in US: Shri Rahul Gandhi

Raebareli (UP): Addressing Party workers in Harchandpur assembly constituency on the first day of his two-day visit to Raebareli and Amethi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi on May 19, 2026, said that the Central government tells the country’s farmers, labourers and small traders to buy electric vehicles when people don’t even get enough food or jobs and also attacked on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that his “remote control” is with US President Donald Trump.

“I don’t know what the Prime Minister is dreaming about when he asks the country to buy electric vehicles. We can’t even get cooking gas to make meals at home. The Prime Minister is asking people not to go abroad or buy gold. I have no idea in what world this man is living in,” the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said. “You must have heard Donald Trump’s speech and he says, ‘Look here, I could finish his career in two minutes’. Meanwhile, the Epstein files remain closed. Modi goes abroad 24 hours (a day) in an attempt to save himself — sometimes to save (himself) from America, sometimes to visit Norway. He folds his hands and tells them, ‘Please forgive me, do not open the Epstein files. Or, there is a case against Adani ji, please close it’,” Shri Rahul Gandhi said. He claimed that a deal had been struck with the US, under which the Prime Minister snatched everything from India and handed it over to America. “Take it in writing. In the near future, the Adani case currently pending in the US will be dismissed. Why? Because Narendra Modi has sold out India, along with its poor, its farmers, labourers, unemployed youth, our data and everything to America, all to get Adani’s case closed. Modi has handed over our entire agricultural system to America. Very shortly, the Adani case will be dismissed by Donald Trump,” he said. Shri Gandhi claimed that Modi has “surrendered our data” and offered to purchase goods worth Rs. 9.5 lakh crores. “The Prime Minister has compromised our energy security. Why? Only to save himself from the Adani case,” he said.

Economic Storm on the Way; PM Not Heeding Own Austerity Appeal

Raebareli: Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi on May 19, 2026, warned of an economic storm headed towards the country, as he slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for flying off to Norway right after his appeal to the people to refrain from going abroad. He also said that inflation will continue to rise until the current government is changed. Shri Rahul Gandhi was addressing a function after the inauguration of a wedding hall in Bachhravan here.

“A war broke out between Iran and the United States. During the conflict, Iran seized control of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic location through which a significant portion of the world’s oil passes, and declared that it would not loosen its hold. Consequently, the entire world is now rapidly beginning to face severe shortages of oil, fertilizers, and diesel,” Shri Gandhi said on the West Asia crisis. He then opened a broadside to Modi. Shri Rahul Gandhi said that Modi urges the citizens not to purchase gold, to switch to electric vehicles, and to refrain from travelling abroad, yet immediately after, he departs on a foreign tour.

“The sad thing is that a severe economic storm is coming, which no one can stop, which we have never experienced in our lives,” he said, adding that the tycoons will be untouched. “Who will get hurt, not Ambani or Adani. They will remain in their palaces, secured from all four sides. It is the farmers of India, labourers, youth, the small businessmen and small industries, who generate employment (who would get hurt),” the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said.

Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi said that he has been warning about an “economic storm” for some time, and it will deal the people a massive blow. “Petrol prices are set to rise, and inflation will skyrocket. Yet, they say Rahul Gandhi has no understanding. Even today, we continue to tell them: Take action. Protect the public, protect the farmers. But they have nothing to do. Sometimes they fly off to Norway, then to Japan, and then somewhere else. Why?” he said. “Day-after-day, we have been urging Narendra Modi to start protecting the workers and the small traders … Yet, what does he do! He flies off to Norway. And in Norway, he says, brother! Help Adani, help Ambani,” Shri Rahul Gandhi said.

“Adani and Ambani will grow richer. Your entire money will go into their pockets. Grand houses and palaces will be built. And the entire system will be made solely to siphon money out of your pockets. We stand firmly by your side. Wherever you wish, whenever you need me, you can call me,” he said. Shri Rahul Gandhi alleged that over the last 10 years, public money, farmers’ money, was stolen to give to “two billionaires” and as a result, “all wealth in the country now rests entirely in the hands of just two individuals.”

“Look at the airports, ports, power stations and the cement industry. Look at the industries critical to the nation’s defence. Narendra Modi has handed every single one of them over to a select few,” he said. Later, replying to a question on the use of electric vehicles, Shri Rahul Gandhi said that the problem lies not with the vehicles, but inflation and unemployment. “Very soon, there is going to be a shortage of fertilizers. I do not know in which world they are living, and telling people to use electric vehicles,” he said.

Second Day: ‘Bahujan Swabhimaan Sabha’

Constitution, voice of Gandhi, Ambedkar, under attack: Shri Rahul Gandhi in Raebareli

On the second day of his visit to his constituency, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi was addressing a ‘Bahujan Swabhiman Sabha’ in Raebareli, commemorating local revolutionary Veera Pasi.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi said that the Constitution is under attack and called it a document that represents the voices of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi that must be protected.

“While listening to other speakers, I felt that we remember Veera Pasi and Dr Ambedkar, but the ideology they stood for is not being protected properly because, in front of our eyes, an attack is being made on the Constitution,” Shri Rahul Gandhi said.

Shri Rahul Gandhi said that the Constitution is not an ordinary document, but one that carried the ideology of Ambedkar, Veera Pasi and Mahatma Gandhi, along with the contributions of several reformers such as Narayana Guru in Kerala and Basavanna in Karnataka. Leader of Opposition also referred to Buddha, Guru Nanak, and Kabir, saying their voices were reflected in the Constitution.

He alleged that while people bow before statues and organize large programmes, they remain silent when attacks are made on the Constitution and the ideology it represents. “Those who bow before Ambedkar’s statue forget his ideology. They do not protect it. The ideology must be defended when it is under attack,” he said. “It says India belongs to everyone, not to any caste, individual, billionaire or organization,” he said.

He also alleged that the Prime Minister is “attacking the Constitution 24 hours a day” by weakening MNREGA, not conducting caste census, and favouring select industrialists. He said that remembering Ambedkar, Veera Pasi, and Mahatma Gandhi was meaningful only if their ideology was protected. “Just folding hands before their statues is not enough. If you go out and act against their ideology, it has no meaning,” he said.

Shri Rahul Gandhi said that India’s ideals of equality and justice must be defended collectively. “The Veera Pasis, Ambedkars and Gandhis of the 21st century will come from among you. They will not come from the sky,” he said. During the lockdown, he said that migrant workers suffered immense loss, while loans worth lakhs of crores of rupees belonging to industrialists were waived. “And now the same thing is going to happen again.” The Congress leader said that slogans alone would achieve nothing as he urged people to protect the Constitution. “Folding hands alone will not help. You will have to stand firm and fight,” he said.
