Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi addressed the public in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh on May 17, 2024

While addressing the huge public meeting, Smt. Sonia Gandhi said- Rahul, Akhilesh Yadav ji, K.C. Venugopal ji, Priyanka, Bhupesh Baghel ji, Avinash Pandey ji, Pramod Tiwari ji, all the leaders present on the stage, the workers, my family members of Rae Bareli, I am happy that today, after a long time, I have got the opportunity to be among you. I am grateful to you from the bottom of my heart. My head is bowed with reverence before you. You gave me the opportunity to serve as an MP for 30 years. This is the biggest asset of my life.

Rae Bareli is my family, similarly Amethi is also my home. Not only are the fond memories of my life linked here, but our family’s roots have been linked to this soil for the last 100 years. This relationship, as sacred as Mother Ganges, started with the farmers’ movement of Awadh and Rae Bareli and continues till today.

Indira ji had a special place for Rae Bareli in her heart. I have seen her working closely. She had immense love for you. I have given the same learning to Rahul and Priyanka, which Indira ji and the people of Rae Bareli taught me – respect everyone, protect the weak, fight against injustice and for the rights of the people. Do not be afraid of whatever you have to fight because your roots and traditions of struggle are immensely strong. My life has been filled with your blessings and love. Your love never let me feel alone. Whatever I am or I have today is all what you have given me. So brothers and sisters, I am handing over my son to you. I am handing over my son, just like you considered me as your own, similarly you have to consider Rahul as your own.This Rahul will not disappoint you.
