Telangana CM Oath Ceremony

Hyderabad: Shri Anumula Revanth Reddy on December 7, 2023, took oath as Chief Minister of Telangana, becoming the first Congress Chief Minister of the youngest state in India. The swearing-in ceremony of the new government took place at Hyderabad’s LB Stadium. Shri Bhatti VikramarkaMallu also took oath as the Deputy CM of the state that was formed in the year 2014. Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi were present for the swearing-in ceremony. Party leader Shri Rahul Gandhi, Smt. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister Shri DK Shiv kumar, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri M Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also took part in the occasion.

Soon after taking oath as the first Congress Chief Minister of the young state, Shri Revanth Reddy, took a cabinet meeting on the same day.
The Congress wrested power from the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in the recent Assembly polls and won 64 out of the total 119 seats. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which ruled India’s youngest state for 10 years, won 38 seats. The BJP won eight seats, and AIMIM got seven.

About the Chief Minister

Shri AnumulaRevanth Reddy, commonly known as Revanth Reddy was born on November 08, 1969, in KondareddyPalli of Mahboobnagar district (in present-day Nagarkurnool district, Telangana). He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Andhra Vidyalaya College, Osmania University, Hyderabad.

Shri Reddy married Geetha, former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy’s niece. The couple has a daughter. Previously, he represented Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency in the Parliament of India. He was appointed as President of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, replacing Shri N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, in July 2021. He led his Party to victory in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election, defeating the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi. Shri Revanth Reddy was a member of ABVP while he was a student. In 2006, he contested the local body election and was elected as ZPTC member from Midjilmandal as an independent candidate. In 2007, Shri Revanth Reddy was elected as a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) as an independent candidate. Later, he met Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and joined the TDP.

He served as MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly between 2009 and 2014 and in Telangana Assembly between 2014 and 2018. He contested the 2014 undivided Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections and was elected to the Telangana Assembly from Kodangal. On October 31, 2017, he joined Congress. He contested the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections from Kodangal as Indian National Congress (INC) candidate and lost to Bhartiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate Patnam Narender Reddy, marking his first defeat in any election. On September 20, 2018, he was appointed one of the three Working Presidents of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).

Shri Revanth Reddy successfully contested the 2019 general election from the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency as a Congress candidate. He led the Congress’ successful campaigning against the incumbent Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election with the Party winning 64 seats, 4 seats past the majority mark. He contested from Kodangal and Kamareddy constituencies, winning in the former seat and losing in the latter. After his earlier wins from Kodangal constituency in 2009 and 2014, he is representing the constituency for the third time.

Shri Revanth Reddy unanimously elected as CLP

Congress Legislative Party had a meeting in Hyderabad on December 5, 2023, to decide new CLP Leader. Shri D.K. Shivakumar, Shri ManikraoThakare, Smt. Deepa Dasmunshi, Shri K. Muraleedharan, Shri K.J. George and Dr.Ajoy Kumar are the observers, who attended the meeting. CLP meeting took 2-3 resolutions: - 1. Thanking the people of Telangana for giving a massive victory for Congress Party. 2. Thanking the leadership including Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, CPP Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, former Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi and Smt. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for extensively campaigning in Telangana. 3. Then they unanimously entrusted the decision of CLP leader to the Hon’ble Congress President.

Shri D.K. Shivakumar and Shri ManikraoThakare have given the detailed report on their observation about the CLP meeting. After considering this report and discussion with the senior leadership, Hon’ble Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge decided to go with Shri Revanth Reddy, our PCC President, as the new CLP leader of Telangana. Shri Revanth Reddy is working as the PCC President, a dynamic leader, who campaigned in this election extensively with other senior leaders Mallu Bhatti Ji and all other senior leaders.

As we have already given promise to the people of Telangana with the guarantees. AICC is very sure that the first and foremost priority of this new government is to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Telangana and especially the guarantees, which we have given to the people of Telangana.

Therefore, this is going to be a clear-cut, clean and very energetic & able government, which is going to provide maximum governance to the people of Telangana.
