New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) questioned the “partisan functioning” of the Election Commission, saying the entire electoral process was being “severely compromised”.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Congress General Secretary in-charge organization Shri KC Venugopal, General Secretary in-charge communications Shri Jairam Ramesh and Chairman of the Media and Publicity Department Shri Pawan Khera said that the CWC met at AICC Headquarters on November 29, 2024 and was presided over by the Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge. It was attended among others by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi, CWC members, permanent and special invitees and Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers. 81 out of 91 CWC members have attended the Congress Working Committee.
Expressing deep concern over the compromised integrity of the electoral process, CWC resolved to launch a national movement to uphold democratic values and electoral integrity. CWC had detailed discussion on various issues on national as well organisational issues.
The CWC hoped while expressing confidence that the Congress President will complete the detailed state-wise reviews soon and take the necessary follow-up action, particularly in relation to organisational matters. “These matters need urgent attention both at the AICC level as well in all states”, it said.
Assuring the Party’s rank and file that there was no need to feel disheartened, the CWC called upon workers and leaders at all levels to summon the maximum strength and resilience at this juncture.
“There is no reason to get disheartened or panic. We must persevere with renewed determination and resolve. Unity and discipline are called for now more than ever before,” it noted.
The CWC also resolved to mark the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi becoming the Congress President in Belgaum with an extended Working Committee meeting on 26th and 27th December and a massive rally in Belgaum after that. 100 years ago, Mahatma Gandhi had taken over as the President of the Indian National Congress in its Belgaum season in 1924.
CWC also resolved to form internal committees to assess electoral performance and strengthen organisational structures at the block and district levels.
