The All India Mahila Congress launched a Signature Campaign on the Death Anniversary of our beloved Leader & Bharat Ratna Shri Rajiv Gandhiji, in support of the passage of 33% Women’s Reservation Bill which ensures 33% seats for women in State Assemblies and Parliament. The Campaign started with first signing the signature format by Hon’ble Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi. Hon’ble Vice-President Shri Rahul Gandhi at Veer Bhumi on 21st May 2017. Smt. Priyanka Gandhi also supported the campaign and endorsed it by putting her signature.
The signature campaign has also been launched by all Mahila Congress units across the country which will continue till 10th of August 2017. On the 20th August 2017 i.e. the Birth Anniversary of Shri Rajiv Gandhiji, the signature collected from all State units, in support of the passage of 33% Women’s Reservation Bill, will be handed over to Hon’ble President of India. The All India Mahila Congress would build up pressure on the NDA Government for the passage of this Bill as early as possible so that the unfulfilled dream of Shri Rajiv Gandhiji becomes a reality.
On 21st May i.e. Martyrdom Day of Shri Rajiv Gandhiji, the All India Mahila Congress & Smt. Sai Anamika, Acting President, Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress organized a Blood Donation Camp exclusively by women donors, as a token of respect gratitude and love for our visionary leader. The program was held at the AICC Media Briefing Hall. Smt. Shobha Oza, President, AIMC, Ms. Netta D’Souza, General Secretary, AIMC & I/C Delhi, Smt. Neetu Verma Soin, General Secretary, AIMC also donated the blood. Similar Blood Donation camps were also organized by State Mahila Congress in various States across the country.
State Mahila Congress units collected Bangles to present the same to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in order to protest against his total failure in curbing violence in Kashmir and Pakistan sponsored terrorism in the State.
On 14th May 2017, a team of AIMC headed by Smt. Shobha Oza, President, AIMC including Smt. Neetu Verma Soin, General Secretary, AIMC & I/C Haryana PMC and Smt. Sumitra Chauhan, President, Haryana PMC went to meet the family of the victim of a brutal rape and murder that took place in Sonipat, Haryana. After that the team proceeded to Chandigarh to Gherao Haryana Chief Minister’s residence, seeking speedy justice for the victim as well as Police protection to her family. They also presented a Memorandum to the Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar.
The AIMC President Smt. Shobha Oza was deputed by the AICC to address Press Conferences in Ranchi, Trivandrum and Dehradun on completion of 3 years of Modi Government.
On 27th May, AIMC President attended a meeting of State Executive & District Presidents of Tamil Nadu which was organized by Smt. ASP Jhanserani, President Tamil Nadu. Smt. Nagma Morarji, General Secretary, AIMC & I/C Tamil Nadu, Smt. Hazeena Syed, Secretary, AIMC were also present in the meeting.
On 28th May AIMC President attended a program which was organized as part of year long celebration of 100th Birth Anniversary of Smt. Indira Gandhi by Smt. Premlatha, President, Puducherry PMC. Shri V. Narayansammy, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri A. Namachivayam, President, Puducherry PCC, Smt. Nagma Morarji, General Secretary, AIMC & I/c Puducherry PMC were also present in the same. About 1000 Mahila Congress functionaries attended the program. Newly appointed Mahila Congress President of Andaman Nicobar Islands Smt. Neelaveni also organized a program for the same purpose.
New appointed President of Rajasthan PMC Smt. Rehana Reyaz Chisti addressed Mahila Congress meeting of Bikaner City Mahila Congress and a Mahila Congress Convention of Alwar District on 19th & 24th May, respectively. She also organized a protest dharna at Police Commissioner Office against the increasing crimes against women in the State. Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress President Ms. Shahnaz Yasmin Haque visited a relief camp where around 200 families, whose houses were burnt down by some miscreants in Guwahati City, were residing and distributed edible items and clothes.
Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress gheraoed Angul District Collector office and demanded lifting of ESMA Act from Talcher alongwith withdrawal of false cases against the displaced people of Angul District. West Bengal PMC President Smt. Rasu Dutta organized a meeting of its State executive which was attended by Smt. Jarjum Ete, General Secretary, AIMC & I/C West Bengal.
On 24th May, Smt. Pratima Singh, President, Uttar Pradesh PMC organized a meeting of City and District Presidents of Mahila Congress with a view to prepare the cadre for local body elections expected to be held in October. Dr. Shobhna Shah, General Secretary, AIMC & Incharge UP, Smt. Sunita Sehrawat, Secretary, AIMC & Co-Incharge UP gave necessary instructions and guidance.
