Golden Jubilee of Arunachal Pradesh Celebrated

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh, the land of the rising sun, known as the ‘Last Shangri La on Earth’ turned 50 on January 20, 2022.The inaugural programme of golden jubilee of Arunachal Pradesh, marking the 50th year of the naming of the state was held on January 20, 2022 in Ziro, Lower Subansiri District, where the state got its name and Union Territory on the same day in 1972. The month-long event across the state culminated in the celebration of the 36th Statehood Day in Itanagar on February 20, 2022.

The erstwhile North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) was renamed as Arunachal Pradesh – the land of rising sun and declared as Union Territory at Ziro, the headquarters of undivided Subansiri on January 20, 1972, by Iron Lady Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. On February 28, 1972 at Shillong, Smt. Indira Gandhi declared Itanagar as the Capital of Arunachal Pradesh.

On February 20, 1987, Arunachal Pradesh was declared as 24th State of Indian Union, which was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi and the rest is history. On this historic day, APCC extended its warm greetings to the people on the historic occasion of 50 years’ completion of Arunachal Pradesh. APCC remembered & acknowledged the founders and contributors for their struggles, hard work & dedicated services for the all-round development of the society and the state as a whole.
